Q.Do you agree with Sammy that Ian and Sammy should listen to Mrs. Veer and stay in town? Why? Or Why Not?

A. I disagree with Sammy that they should stay in their town because if they stayed Sammy would have been taken to a foster home, and Ian would have been thrown in Jail. If this would have happened they wouldn't have ever been able to be together as a family, and see their mom. Family for Ian and Sammy is the most important thing that they can have.

Question: If you were to chose a different title for the book what would it be? Why?
Answer: If I were to re-name the book I would call it "Teenage Runaway."
Proof: I would change the title of "Skate" to "Teenage Runaway" because in the text or novel they were hardly ever "Skateing" anywhere so it is kind of in-significant. It would be better to change it to "Teenage Runaway" because it is more significant with teenager's actually runing away.

Question: Do you share any of the same experiances as Ian and/or Sammy?
Answer: i do kind of share some of the same experiances as Ian and Sammy. When I get really mad at my parents, I feel like I want to run away. Like Ian and Sammy did. I won't, but I feel like it, at the time, and later on when I think about what I was thinking, I am like "why would I ever do that? I mean, i love my parents." The only difference in this, is that Ian abnd Sammy acully do run away.
Proof from the text: In the story, Skate, Ian and Sammy just run away from their drug addict mom, because their sick, and tired of her behavoir, and never being there for them, and most of all, her doing drugs, and the people she brings home. So, they thought to run away.

Week #6
Q. Why does Ian keep thinking that Samuel deseres to be in pain, or punished?
A. Ian thinks Samuel deseres to be in pain, and/or punished because Ian thinks that Samuel did not go though the troubles, and the pain, and the hurt he has been though all his, life trying to take care of Sammy, and trying to find foo, water, and shelter, blankets, and warth while they were out trying to find their father.
Proof From The Text. Ian shows that he doesn't know anything about his own father. Ian doesn't know the truth, about how Samuel feels about his mother, or about the truth on why his father left in the first place.

Book Club Week #5
Q: What solution would you suggest for Ian to do at this time in the book?
A: I would suggest to Ian that he should keep doing what he is doing and get clean with the cops.
Proof: I suggest this because in the novel "Skate" when Ian was running in the wilderness away from the cops nothing but trouble came to him. Now that he is getting his problems delt with he might be able to live a normal life with his dad.

Week 5
Q. Why does Ians Mom keep asking " What Happened"?
A. I think that Ians Mom kept asking " What Happened" because she was never there to watch her own kids, and why their life is so messed up. Also she wanted to know why Ian and Sammy left. I think they left because they did not want to live in that life, like their father.
P. In the text Ian and Sammy took their mom out of Malachi's house and sat at a bench. Ians Mom kept asking "what happened" And Ian freaked out on her, and said that Sammy needs her, and always did need her. She asked again. IAn turned and went to the truck.

Book Club #5
Question: Why do you think Coach Schmidt had helped Ian, when Ian had been so mean to her?
Answer: The reason why I think Coach Schmidt was so nice to Ian is because I think she had finally realized that Ian works hard just to wake up the next morning. I think she also realizes that Ian has a heart og gold just because he will do anything for him to stay with his brother Sammy.
Proof From Text: I thought this because in the passage for week 5, the author had quoted "No worries, buddy," Ian said, sitting next to sammy and giving him a hud. "I love you." I think this quote really showed Ian in a different way. He is no punk teenage with an anger issue, he is a young boy that cares for his people in his life.

Question: Would you ever run away from home like Ian and Sammy did?
Answer: I would not be able to run away from home, because even though I can get really mad at my parents, I can never run away from them forever. I also wouldn't because at their age, it is young. If I was to run away and find my dad, that would be a really long travel, and scary because you don't know where you are going.
Proof from the text: In the story skate the author, Micheal Harmon said they had a lot of stuggles going to their dad's house.

Week 4
Q. Describe what you think Ian and Sammy look like when they are sitting at the office desk, disscusing what will be done with their life.
A. I think Ian and Sammy look both tired, hungry, and dirty. They would have bruises on their legs from rocks, and cuts on their arms from branches. Both would be very dirty, with no clean clothes, water, or blankets. They would not have the energy to walk another meter even if it depended on their life. They would have bags under their eyes from all of the horrible sleep on the hard, rocky ground. Ian would not have his hair spiked, and not look like a punk any more. Sammy would still look the same, except he would be a lot skinnier, and dirtier, same with Ian.

Question: What do you think is a better name for this book?(If you had to choose one.)
Answer: If I had to choose a different name for this book, I would chose the name, "caught in the middle." I think that would be a good name. Another one I would pick, "what a life." Proof: In the first one, the author said Ian and Sammy are always in trouble, or being looked for, or chased by the cops. I know this because Ian and Sammu are caught in trouble, so their basically, "caught in the middle."
I think the second one because Ian and Sammy have to live, with their mom not being with them, and living with their mom being a crack head. So I think it is a scary life for them.

Book Club #4
Q: What word best describes Ian's dad Samuel?
A: I think that the best word that best describes Ian's dad (Samuel) is un-careing.
Proof: I know that Samuel is un-careing because he was never there for Ian, Sammy, or his wife when they were in most need. For example he never fed them food, he never cared for them, never talked to them or sent them letter's, he never helped them by giving them a bandaid when they were hurt, and he didn't even help his drug attict wife after he gave up.

Book Club #4
Q: Do you think this book Skate is some what like the authors life when he was a younger child?
A: I do think this book is some what like the authors when he was younger. The author had quoted some very specific and descripitive writing in this book. I do not think that an author could create such an amazingly descripitive book without having something similiar to what is happening in the book and what had happened in the author's life.
Proof From Text: When I was just skimming through the book, I noticed that in the book Michael had quoted that the true story rings had came from his brotherhood and what protrayed his life.

Q. Explain how you would have acted like if a man like Craig showed up and knelt beside your sick brother like Craig did to Sammy?
A. If I had been through the same things as Ian I probably would have picked up the nife and threatened Craig as well because I would have loved my little brother enough to make sure no harm would come to him.

Proof From The Text: I think this because in the book it say's Craig was just standing over top of Sammy watching him, and I don't know about you, but I would have thought that he was hurting my little brother.

Questioner;
Question: Why does Ian always say that his mom is "Sick"?
Answer: THis might be because Ian does not want to face the fact that his mother is a druggy, and that she does not want her life to change because of her children.
Proof from the Text: Page; 160 Para; 2;
"Ian says you go here if you kill people or sell drugs. Mom is sick 'cause of drugs, so drug guys should be there. Like the one Ian beat up."
This shows me that Ian kept telling Sammy that their mother is "Sick".

Question: Why wouldn't Ian and Sammy just go up to a house and ask for a blanket, food, and some water instead of doing work?
Answer: I think they were scard to just incase it was someone rude, incaring, or someone like their mom. I also think they didn't just go up t oa house because they are polite, and they think "if someone gives me something, I must return them with something!"
Proof from the Text: I think this because their mom was very unpolite, rude, and uncaring for Sammy and Ian. It also sounds like Sammy and Ian are caring, and polite fro offing to do the job.

Book Club #3:
Question: Why did Craig smash the glass jar against the ground when he knew Ian needed it?
Answer: I think Craig had smashed the glass jar against the ground because he was scared and frightened of Ian. It could have also been that he was showing Ian that things were going to get a lot harder for he and Sammy in the near future.
Proof From Text: I think this because in the book the author had quoted, "You almost killed me. You would've killed my if I haden't seen you.". This shows that Craig was scared and frightened of Ian because Ian was going to kill him. In my opinion if I was in the position Craig was I would have been so frightened that I would have already been running.

Ts 36
Week 2
Q: Why did Ian's dad Samuel leave the family?
A: Samuel left the family because of the fact that the mom was doing drugs, and smoking, and probably sleeping with other men. He also wanted a better life.
Proof from the text: Ian was thinking about how and why his dad left, and he thought because of his mom doing drugs, and smoking. I was agreeing.

Question: Why won't Sammy and Ian just tell their mom what it is like stuggiling for food, and struggiling without their mom always gone?
Answer: I think they might be scared to tell their mom because she is on drugs, and she smokes, and she is high most of the time.
Proof from the Text: I think this because in the book it says their mom is never home with them, and they struggle for food. It also says their mom is always high, and that she is home late all the time, and she is always gone from home, and so they don't get to see their mom that often.

Question: Why would Ian choose his father for a destination to stop on his "journey" with Sammy?
Answer: I think that Ian choose to pick his father for a destination to stop because he and Sammy can't remeber him and he is the only realitive that they can go to. It also might be that Ian picked his father because Sammy has always wanted to meet him.
Proof From Text: I think this because in the book the author had quoted "I can draw whatever I want, and besides, maybe he'll come one day an' see us." This quote proves that Sammy really did want to see his father and showed that he cared about him.

Question: Why do you think the mini mart store had a 'no skakeboarding' sign up? How do you feel about skateboarding?
Answer: I think the store had a 'no skateboarding' sign up because the owner may not like skateboading, so he might have put the sign up to all those who do like it, and for people who would be skateboarding around his store. The owner could have a family who does not like it, and is totally against it. I don't really like skateboaring, so I don't really care about the signs. I am pretty sure that people who like skateboarding would hate to have the sign up; It means they can't skateboard until they're far enough away from the store.
Proof from the text: I think this because in the book he had "NO SKATEBOARDING" in capitles. I know that because some stores in Wingham, Kitchener, London, and other places, have the same thing... 'no skateboarding'.

Q: Why wouldn't Ian's mom step in and say to the boyfriend "give them their dinner"?
A: Ian's mom wouldn't step in because she may have thought that her boyfriend was going to hurt her if she had tried to step in. Also it may have been the case that she had smoked something illegally and made her act "funny" so she wouldn't do anything about it.
P: I think this because in the book the author had written "Snake-Man lit a pipe took a hit andd then passed it to Mom." This shows that she had actually inhaled the drug and made her and act differently. When she was acting like this she wouldn't feel anything.

Q: Why does Ms. Veer want Ian to go to the school Kerner, instead of staying at Morrison?
A: Ms. Veer wants Ian to go to the school Kerner because he is not keeping up with his homework, and has really bad grades.
Proof From The Text: Ms. Veer is concerned that Ian will not pass the WAEE this year at Morrison. (Washington Acadimic Evaluation Examination)
