TS44:

page:112 paragraph:1

Book club #4 - In this passage Luke wakes up crying for the eighth night in a row. Luke has been doing this ever since he came home from the hospital. Sam quickly walks down the hall to calm Luke. Sam decides to clime into bed with Luke and try to comfort him by talking about happy things. Like what they are going to when they go to their grandma's. I think this passage is important because it clearly shows that Sam act's like more of a mother then her mom does. The reason I think this is because Sam's mom didn't even get out of bed to check on Luke.

TS29:

Page: 1 & 2. Paragraph: 1

This paragraph gives a clue to the reader that her father is an alcholic. This passage is important information to the novel "Lush" because in the future of the book, you need to know that Sam's dad has an addiction. It is the biggest problem in the book right now.

page:6 paragraph:2

In this paragraph it explains how Sam has an idea to pass a note to some stranger to get advice about her problems at home, but she is left trying to figure out just who to give it to.  This paragraph is impotent, because it's where it all begins with Sam's secret message being sent, which I think could lead to many new issues, and solutions.

Book club #2

page: 51 paragraph: 3

In this part of the book Sam's father and nana are  saying good-bye now that everything is "good" ay home. The significance of this passage is that the writter is trying to use this as a disguise to get you to think, "hey now that "all" the problems are solved, what's going to happen"? This helps you make predictions, and get your thoughts flowing.  Such as..?  Great work!

Book Club#3

Pg:85/86

Paragraph:5/1

In this passage Sam's motherr has rushed into the hospital while she is still in her yoga outfit. Sam's mom is weeping to Sam saying"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." So Sam can't take it anymore so she breaks down and cries too. A quote that the author uses from the scene is "She rocks me back and forth just like a baby." Which can be found on page 86 paragraph 1. I think that this passage is impotent, because it shows that Sam's mom does care about what happened, and she was in a rush to the hospital to go, and help. You could tell that Sam's mother was in a rush to get to the hospital, because when she got there her mom still had her yoga suit on. Also in this part of the book Sam  finally breaks down and cries for once in front of her mom. Sam dosn't even care if her mother will see her cry. Sam is just happy to be in her mother's arms. My proof from the book is when Sam says "At first I keep my arms to my sides, stiff as a bored, but before long I am crying."

Page:112

Paragraph:7

This paragraph is significant, because this is the first time Luke has spoken in a while, and he only asks about his dad. Another reason this paragraph is impotent is, because it shows that there may be someone that will still forgive Sam's dad for his upsetting actions, which I think is why the author added this part in, so that there will be more to the story. I think this, because if Luke accepts his dad's apology then that means Sam's going to have to be a grown up like Luke and accept her dad's apology like Luke.

Paragraph: 4

In this passage Sam is trying to say sorry to Vanessa for ditching, and lying to her about what went on the past weekend, but Vanessa dosn't really want to accept Sam's apology yet until she consults this with her other two friends. So Sam is left thinking of what it would be like if her friends accepted her apology. This passage is significant, because it shows that Sam needs more people in her life then just A.J.K, because she needs to connect with other people in her life, through fun times, and face-to-face rather then just through notes, or to someone Sam dosn't no all that much. Even though with the notes in the library Sam is letting a lot of her feelings out, and whats really going on at home, it still dosn't help her deal with her friends, and make Sam more confidence. Sam needs to learn to trust her friends the same way she does A.J.K

Paragraph: 4

In this paragraph, it is explaining Sam and her family's ride to pick up her father from the rehabilitation centre. It says that Sa is nervous, but it also gives options of what Sam, and Luke want to do with their dad when they get back home with him. For example, Luke and Sam wanted to play in the snow, and build a snowman with him.

I thought this paragraph was a great ending for the story Lush. I think this because the paragraph gave you options of how you wanted it to end. It didn't tell you that her dad Patrick, got in the car grumpy, or happy. It let you decide in your mind how you wanted to story to end.

Paragraph 3

In this passage, Sam walks home at nine at night leaveing her mom scared to death.

I think this is important because it shows that Sams mom really cares about her and what she does. it also shows that Sam's mom is very pertective of Sam.

Paragraph: 6

In this paragraph, Sam had just got home from seeing her father at the rehabilitaion centre. While her mom was worried sick about her, she also wanted to listen to what Sam had to say, and start a new better bond with her.

This paragraph is significant to the story, Lush because I think it is the start of a resolution to Sam's conflict, where she is alll on her own dealing with her alcholic dad, and necer listening mom. In this paragraph it seems to be coming together piece by piece. Now her mom is listening to her, and starting a new relationship. What next?

Paragraph:3

In this passage Sam is now seeing through a different perspective. One that isn't hers, but her fathers. Sam is now put in her fathers place by getting stuck drinking juice, and a peanut-butter sandwhich that just seems to keep getting stuck to the top of Sam's mouth, Sam has to swallow two Tylenol, but it's a bit hard, because her mouth is so dry. Sam is now the one with a hangover, and with the pounding head. Sam even says it herself, she says "Right no I am my father." I think that the author put this part of the book in, because Sam is finally getting to see how it feels to be her father, and to see her mother a different way. Sam gets to see how her mother really treats her father when he is hungover. By having this section of the story included it provides the reader with more thoughts, and questions running through their head like, how is this experience with Sam going to effect the relationship with Sam, and her father?

Paragraph:3

This paragraph gives a a great definition that leaves you with a picture in your mind of Sam's action's to her younger brother. It let's the reader know her feelings for Luke. She cares for him, from the comforting ways that she puts the blanket on him, and just stares at him thinking, while he is asleep on the couch. This is significant to the story because Sam let's the reader know that she is determinded to help her father, and get him to his full recovery. She is brave to stand up to her father who is an alcholic. I know if I were Sam I would be terrified to be in the same home, let alone trying to help him, and standing up to his face. She is showing that she is responsible, which I think is key in this story because she is pretty much on her own.

sig- The importance of this paragraphs is that even thought sam's dad promised that he was going to stop drinking. This also shows that he in not to be trusted.

One Sentence Summary- Sam says to her dad that " it will be like we were dead".

Significance- I think that Natasha Friend put that sentence in the text because Sam haunts the fact that she is alive, because she is depressed about life.

Paragraph: 1
In this paragraph, Sam is watching a daughter and father play catch, having fun, goofing around, and laughing. This is significant to this section in the story because it tells the reader that Sam misses having fun playing with her father. I think this paragraph lets you think that everything wil be okay in the end for Sam's family, but on the other hand it doesn't. Sam is trying and wanting desperatly to forgive her father, but just can't trust him yet.

There are several great examples of Read aloud passages on this page. Make sure you read each other's and give some feedback. For example, there are a few that are missing a clear one sentence summary. Also, make sure you explain "why" the author included it. For example, the author included the part about Ms. Fish calling her Frances because it shows the reader how unimportant and invisible Sam feels. Remember, the author is trying to develop the characters and the plot. How is she doing this?

Paragraph 3

In this paragraph in "Lush" by "Natasha Friend" , Sam has seemed to have given up on trying. For example in her gym class she sat there her whole class doing nothing. She was only thinking about her alcholic father. This is important to the passage because if Sam's father keeps drinking, and making his daughter worried, it might effect Sam to give up on life. She will end up not caring about life, and her family. This wouldn't be good for her life because Sam to me, sounds like a good girl to help her family, and supports them right now in life.

one sentence summary- Sam and Luke are eating breakfest all of a sudden lukes asks "Where's Daddy" from under the kitchen table.
Significanae - I think that this is important because Luke doesn't know his dad drinks. So I think that he is going to find out later on in the book.
